#1 Thing You Need To Be Doing To Build Your Network Marketing Business!

The biggest regret I have going back to when I began in Network Marketing is not focusing on building a physical database of my personal contacts. I started with a written list (1997 mind you) and when I started doing marketing an advertising online I had people fill out an online form but those leads never went into any physical database. They were individual emails that were sent to me and the only way to compile them into one place would be to manually enter their information.

Worse than that, I had no record of IP address, date stamp, etc., to prove that lead did in fact request information from me. In other words, I had no idea what auto responder systems were. This was in the early 2000's so the internet was just getting started and I had no idea what I was doing. Sometimes I wake up at night in a cold sweat thinking about this because there were THOUSANDS of people that requested information from me over the years and I never even thought about the future.

That's why I wanted to do this post. You have to think about the future. I think it was Warren Butffet that said his most valuable asset is his rolodex. For those who may be too young a rolodex was basically a physical turn-style contact database. In today's language, that database is an online source of names that YOU control.

Unfortunately most Network Marketers are using their company's marketing systems and while that sounds great for duplication, the reality is that it's stupid. I'm just keeping it real.

If you are spending money on marketing (or even marketing to your warm market) and those people are opting into your company's system then your company owns that contact, end of story. Yes, some companies may let you download your leads but technically those leads opted into the company's system and NOT yours! That means they own the lead and they can market whatever they want to them. I know it isn't pleasant to think about but sometimes companies go out of business or are sold or change systems. Sometimes Networkers leave companies or decide to leave Network Marketing completely. Wouldn't it be smart for you to have an electronic, cloud based database of all of the contacts you've ever talked to or who have responded to your marketing? That's what auto-responders are for. Don't worry, you don't have to be a super techie type person to set one up. I use Aweber because I think it's the best one out there. I'm sure there are others. You can get started for $19 per month I believe. Once your list gets about 10,000 subscribers it can go up in price but if you're just starting out that won't be an issue.

If you don't have an auto-responder, stop what you're doing right now and go set one up. There are a million trainings on YouTube for setting up Aweber and how to incorporate it into free sites like Wix or WordPress. It's MUCH easier than you think. Don't worry about writing perfect emails at this point. Your goal really is to just begin the process of building that personal contact database that you control 100%! IMPORTANT RESOURCES:
